No, you can’t deny women their basic rights and pretend it’s about your ‘religious freedom.’ If you don’t like birth control, don’t use it. Religious freedom doesn’t mean you can force others to live by your own beliefs.

I’m not a Feminist, BUT…..

I wasn’t going to fill that stereotype of the raging feminist, I really didn’t want to do it. But my tongue is pretty damn bloody right now from how much I’ve been biting it and I have just had enough! I’m here to debunk the myth that feminism is dead for once and for all.  For all those newbies out there, feminism simply means supporting gender equality (Let’s all take on big “ahhh” now shall we?).  Either you are a woman, or you love a woman, so you should want them to be equal.  So all you non-feminists out there (assuming you are either a misogynist or do not have a soul), feminist issues are actually more relevant than ever! Don’t believe me?  Before you get all “oh I’m not a feminist, BUT…” on me, read this:

If anyone has been paying attention to the insanity competition, err, GOP race this season, not to mention read the news..at all (yes, I’m looking at you), then one would know that VAGINA’S are at the heat of the debate currently.  And they’re not coolin off anytime soon that’s for sure. So if you have a vagina, which is more than half of you by sheer probability, then it certainly should be concerning for you.  Aka, you’re “WTF” meter should be at top notch right about now.

And how might this affect you you ask?  Congress is all sorts of messed up trying to pass bills that state life begins at conception (which attack contraceptives as abortion by definition), trying to force women of VA to recieve an ultrasound that has no medicial benefits whatsoever (you want an abortion? first you have to face that fetus inside you jusssst so you can’t live with your murderous self!), and most of all, attempting to put contraception IN GREAT JEOPARDY!  They also are trying to combat Obama’s bill that would require insurance policies even in religious institutions to cover birth control.  And they’re getting pretty savvy at trying to cover all the bases (heh, no pun intended).  So this means if you have ever considered having children, have ever been in the position to consider abortion, have sex that you don’t want to result in pregancy, use birth control of any kind (even condoms folks), go to the gyno, have medical conditions that require birth control, don’t have insurance, or rely on your INSURANCE to cover some of your woman-ly costs, THEN THIS AFFECTS YOU.

Damn, they sure have some big balls going on about Obama’s “War on Relgion”.  …religion…yea, okay.  Unless religion somehow is the new word for female, they have no case at all.

Recently, congress even held a hearing in which Zero females were considered for the panel.  Wait…Back up…if you are a female right now, consider that a slap in the face to your agency, opinion, and expertise on your reproductive organs.  We as women, and people who love women (men- don’t think you’re somehow not a part of this.  We are talking about the ladies in your life who you rely on to take care of this whole let’s-not-make-a-baby stuff, or the female family members that you have that are being told that having a vagina mean’s they are a second-class citizen) need to show government that this is not okay.

Women should have freedom to do what they want with their bodies.  Rick Santorum even goes as far as to not exclude cases of rape or incest. His ignorance to women, the serious and all-to-freqent subject of rape (in which most victims know their rapist), and religion just boggles my mind. Not to mention our culture seems to teach “don’t get raped” instead of “don’t rape”. I don’t see Rick Santorum paying my insurance, being my midwife, paying for years of counseling that undoubtedly would be the case for so many women, or paying for that unborn baby’s education.  Yea, that’s cuz he doesn’t actually care about the implications after unwanted babies are born, he’s just trying to prove he is so damn religious that he out-morals everyone!  According to Santorum, Life is a gift from God himself, and if his plan for you was to get raped and carry that rapists baby, then you should be ecstatic that you are making lemons into lemonade.  Consider all the people that don’t get that precious, precious gift. You should be thankful!  Right? Hell no! We’re not gonna take this ignorance.

Ahem, 90% of women, yes including CATHOLICS, use birth control.  And considering there is a possibility that a republican may be next in the oval office, this is actually a very important issue to keep your eye on. The bottom line is it perpetuates shaming of women and women’s ownership of their bodies.  This is outdated, since half the world is being told that they are sinful and damaged if they so happen to even THINK about sexual acts, yet the other half, who help with the act, gets off scott free.  This shaming of women and sex has been going on for a long, long time, and unfortunately religious books are not the most reliable template for how to deal with these controversial issues.

Now, I understand not all women have my liberal viewpoints.  But let me ask you this:  Just because you are against abortion, birth control, or pre-marital sex doesn’t mean its not the reality for other women.  Do you really want to push your values blindly on other people?  Is that really the right thing to do?  If you are pro-life and concerned that unborn babies are being ruthlessly murdered, perhaps you should adjust your perspective there and maybe consider that already born babies around the world are starving or ongoing casulties of wars (some of which WE are fighting).  And if you are Christian, would Jesus ever truly want a world where women, half of the population and the only gender capable of sustaining life, are still being told what to do with their bodies?  I certainly don’t think so.  Birth control and planning exactly when to be a mother are at the values of a lot of American women, and I think every woman is entitled to her own reproductive freedom, although it may not coincide with mine.  That’s America to me.

Until then, it’s an all out war where Santorum, Romney, Paul, and Cartman all growed up aka Gingrich are out-bigoting each other in order to prove who the “true” christian and woman-hater is. Leave relgion out of government, and leave government out of my damn uterus.  That’s all I gotta say. Sheesh.
